Indices of Multiple DeprivationThe Index ranks small areas of England according to the overall level of crime in that area. These areas are known as Lower Super Output Areas (LSOA) and there are 32,482 of these areas in England, each containing an average of 1500 people. The rankings show a league table of crime levels, with 1 being the highest crime level and 32,482 being the lowest. The measure combines figures for the four major crime types: For the 2007 rankings the index uses police force data from April 2004 to March 2005, while the 2004 rankings use police force data from Apr 2001 to March 2002.
